Mr. White went into his usual teashop one morning, and sat on one of the seats at the counter.

　　Many other people came in also, but none of them stayed long.

　　About fifteen minutes later, a young man and a young woman came in.

　　大约十五分钟后，一个年轻的男人和一个年轻的女人走了进来。

　　There were only two empty seats at the counter, one on Mr. White’s left, and the other on his right.

　　柜台上只有两个空位子，一个在怀特先生的左边，另一个在他的右边。

　　The woman sat on one seat, and the young man sat on the other, but Mr.White immediately asked to change places with the young man so that he and the young woman could be together.

　　女士坐在一个座位上，男士坐在另一个座位上，但是怀特先生马上要求和男士换座位，这样他就可以和那位女士坐在一起了。

　　“Oh, that isn't necessary.” the young man said, but Mr.White insisted.

　　“哦，没那个必要。”年轻男人说，但是怀特先生坚持要换座位。

　　When the young man and the young woman were side by side, he said to her, “Well, this old man is very kind, he wanted us to sit together. May I introduce myself? My name is John. What's your name?”

　　当年轻男人和女人坐在一起时，他对她说，“这位老先生很好，他想然我们坐在一起。我能做个自我介绍吗？我叫约翰，你叫什么？”
